“Enclosed is the script for a reading delivered on the launch of ‘Breakthroughs’, a film series by Deborah May documenting the working processes of dancers Henrietta Baird, Rhiannon Newton, Rosalind Crisp, Martin del Amo and Jade Dewi Tyas Tunggal. ‘Breakthroughs’ documents the performance and working processes of each artist, edited into 5 multi-screen films for display at Critical Path’s 20th Birthday Festival ‘Every Wild Idea’ on the 14th-16th of November 2025. This text traces the production of each video work, reflecting on the unique approaches to practice and extrapolating them into a performative mode. Less a descriptive account or instructive interpretation; the text compiles notes, marginalia and insights from my experience in the rehearsal room.”
